Partying it Up at the Gym

In Miami, let’s face it—everyone has amazing bodies. There’s no need to be jealous. You don’t have to just envy them, you too, can have those killer abs. The David Barton Gym, located in the trendy Gansevoort South Hotel, is the perfect place to work out and people watch. With its low lighting and music, it's been compared to a nightclub. It draws an eclectic group of people, from artists to musicians to models—which is a good thing, because being around beautiful people can be the kick in the butt you need to get into your best shape. Part of the fun of the gym is the live DJ; this beats watching the evening news while running on a treadmill. Working out doesn’t have to be all work and no play.
The gym has ten types of yoga. Some of the yoga classes includes yoga for jocks, power vinyasa yoga, liquid yoga (which refers to the sweat that will be dripping off your face after the class), yoga core training and sunrise vinyasa yoga. While some hotel packages may include complimentary gym access, you can pay $15 for a day pass or $30 to attend Krav Maga, the creative muscle playground strength-training or a boxing session. After you’re done working out, enjoy a dive in the pool or even the ocean—the gym has direct access to the beach.
Owner David Barton says, “I’m in the business of selling something that a lot of people don’t like. I have to make the gym as fun as possible.” Barton even met his wife Suzanne at the gym. Hey, you never know, you could meet your soulmate here. This gym is the perfect definition of the phrase "Work hard and play hard all in the same space." And if you live in Miami, the enrollment fee can be waived during the month of January. What are you waiting for? You won’t feel like you’re working out, instead you’ll just be hanging out and getting in the best shape of your life.
