Vancouver is a Jewish city; it has about seven percent of the Canadian Jews living in the Vancouver metropolitan area. The number of Jews has grown significantly in the last century. In 1891 there were only 85 Jews and in 2001 that number increased to 25,000. The Jews of Vancouver were among the first to join the Zionist movement and a Zionist association was founded in Vancouver already in the early 1900's.
