Chess Competitors Meet with Vladmir Putin

Russian President Vladmir Putin congratulated the winner of a recent chess championship match, as well as the Israeli player he beat. Viswanathan Anand won the 2012 World Chess Championship in Moscow Wednesday, retaining his title as reigning champion. The win earned Anand and his competitor, second place ranker Boris Gelfand, a 30-minute tea time visit at Putin’s home. Conservative Rabbis Approve Same-Sex Marriage Ceremony Guidelines

The Rabbinical Assembly’s Committee on Jewish Law and Standards--which sets halachic policy for the Conservative movement--has voted unanimously to provide the approximately 1,600 Conservative rabbis with guidelines on performing same-sex marriages. The move is an official sanction of the ceremonies by the movement. The CJLS approved the documents Thursday by a 13-0 vote with one abstaining ballot. An Israeli performance at England’s The Globe Theatre was disrupted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators this week, leading to the ejection of an estimated 20 protesters.
