Gene Simmons Explains Long Wait for Marriage

KISS rocker Gene Simmons finally confessed what took him and wife Shannon Tweed so long to tie the knot—he was too selfish for marriage.

After almost 29 years of being in a relationship (we want to write “committed relationship,” but we wouldn’t want to lie to you), the couple finally said “I do” last October in front of friends, family, and their two adult children.

He told the British TV show Daybreak that he thought he could have his cake and eat it too, having married life without having to answer to a wife.

He added, “Shannon has been with me for 28, almost 29 years this August and has put up with my c**p…for her to stick around and put up with all that, and she knows everything, she knows where all the bodies are buried and all that.”

He finished off with a philosophical thought for us all: “This is a question for all those guys out there. Imagine you're on your deathbed. Who do you want around your deathbed for that last breath of air? If you want the woman you love and your children, then don't wait before you die. Love them and be good to them while you're alive."

J-connection: Born Chaim Weitz, Gene Simmons' Jewish mother survived the Holocaust and gave birth to Gene a few years after her release from a concentration camp in Nazi Germany.
