Germany’s medical association released an official apology for experiments performed on concentration camp prisoners by German doctors.
The statement was part of a declaration put into place this week in Nuremberg. Part of the document stated that many doctors were “guilty, contrary to their mission to heal, of scores of human rights violations and we ask the forgiveness of their victims, living and deceased, and of their descendants.”
The association added: “These crimes were not the actions of individual doctors but involved leading members of the medical community.” The declaration said the atrocities should act as a warning for future generations.
Nazi doctors performed a number of inhumane experiments on victims, like forced sterilization and euthanasia.
