Israel to Expand IT, Biotech Trade with India

Israeli Ambassador Alon Ushpiz called on Bengal Director General of Police N. Mukherjee today in a closed-door meeting. Though neither party would disclose the purpose of the meeting, Ushpiz only said: "We have very close relation with India, both centre and states. Indian citizens' well-being is important to Israel also."

In an interactive session organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Ushpiz revealed, "Free Trade Agreement with India is under discussion. To change the composition of trade with India, we will focus on IT and biotechnology. The volume of trade will be larger and larger in the future."

Ushpiz expands, "We can extend cooperation to West Bengal also."

Currently, bilateral trade between Israel and India stands at $5 billion. Five years after ratifying the discussed trade agreement, trade would more than double.
