The Jewish National Fund Sustainability Summit officially kicked off last night in southern Nevada with a cocktail party and havdalah program featuring Russell F. Robinson, CEO of the JNF and actor Joel David Moore, best known for his role of Dr. Norm Spellman in "Avatar." The environmental summit is expected to draw top Jewish leaders and entrepreneurs from all over the world for the weekend event to discuss solutions to the world’s environmental woes.
“This Summit will catalyze a movement that is underway, in which Israel is an environmental leader among nations forging a cooperative path toward sustainability,” stated Ben Jablonski, Summit co-chair.
The summit is also an opportunity to have fun with an impressive guest list. “Lots of influential members of the [world Jewish] community are going, and of course it will be a great party; it’s Vegas!” Alina Lukashevsky, a conference goer from New York City, said.
Sunday’s program is chock full of panel discussions focusing on US/Israeli environmental partnerships and Israeli innovations and will be led by top Jewish leaders including Las Vegas Mayor Caroline Goodman, Vanity Fair writer Rich Cohen, and Naty Barak, Chief Sustainability Officer at Netafim.
Lunch will feature eco-friendly fair and a discussion by Malcom Mitchell, Celebrity Chef and Food Network Star as well as Inbal Baum, Founder of Delicious Israel.
Sunday evening will be capped off by the presentation of this year’s Sustainability Leadership Awards, which will honor former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Better Place, a program Olmert was instrumental in raising government support.
Olmert is also expected to speak during the evening’s award event. “Olmert had the vision to finance public/private partnership with Better Place; he will talk about cooperation between public authorities and private business,” Andrew Wilshinksy, Summit co-chair, noted.
On Monday, participants will have an opportunity to explore the desert eco-system of southern Nevada before heading home. The desert program will be led by Rabbi Michael Cohen, The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies and Todd Patkin, author, motivational speaker and TV personality.
