#Occupywallstreet posted a cartoon to their Facebook page this morning depicting an ultra-Orthodox Jewish man driving the UN using American President Barack Obama as a gearshift.
In the four hours since the anti-Semitic drawing was published, 277 angry comments have accumulated from Israelis, Jews and non-Jews alike. Daniel Roth writes, “This drawing is silly, stupid and shameful (as is the person who posted it) … it’s an insult to Jews and humanity as a whole.”
Andrew Jones adds, “I can’t stress enough that this pic HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OCCUPY!” Some commenters admonished that posting pictures like this one open Occupy to criticism from right-wing groups and discredit the goals of the movement.
Many have decried the terrible timing of the post, reminding all that today is Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day. Ronney Amitay writes, “Good reminder for the Holocaust day … thanks.”
Many commenters are demanding to know the identities of the anonymous administrators behind the Occupy Tampa page.
Still, the photo has garnered 48 likes on Facebook as of this posting.
UPDATE: The official Occupy Wall Street group has responded to the cartoon on Twitter.
