As if “That’s My Boy” didn’t look unfunny enough—featuring a return to the classic and grating Adam Sandler juvenile voice—Funny or Die had to go and cut a new trailer that is even unfunny-er. The upside? The new version is only one minute long.
The conceit is stunningly stupid. Andy Samberg appears on screen, displaying the same level of discomfort that he enjoys in the film itself, and explains that he’s taken it upon himself to cut a trailer for “That’s My Boy” even though he hasn’t seen it. What follows is an implausible list of celebrities that are featured in the film. The joke is that they all have similar names.
According to the trailer, “That’s My Boy” features appearances by “Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Adam Lambert, Adam Lamberg, Shmandy Blanderberg and Shmadam Flanderberg.”
Ryne Sandberg, Ingmar Bergman, Rabbi Jewman McShwartzmangoldbergstein, Adam Goldberg’s eyebrows, “the Prime Minister of Israel, on rye,” Tom Cruise, and Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, and Ben Stiller in a “giant tin of sardines” have all also allegedly tied their names to this project.
We hope to Hashem that Samberg actually had nothing to do with this. Because if this is his version of funny, he should tuck his tail between his legs and head back to “SNL” where other writers can do the thinking for him.
On another note, why did he have to drag so many Jewish names into this terrible stunt? It’s almost anti-Semitic.
J-Connection: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Adam Lambert, Adam Lamberg, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, Ben Stiller, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Rabbi Jewman McShwartzmangoldbergstein and both of Adam Goldberg’s eyebrows are Jewish.
