Yad Vashem and Europe Council Promote Shoah Education

Yad Vashem signed an agreement with the Council of Europe to promote Holocaust education.

The memorandum was signed Wednesday at the Holocaust trust’s Jerusalem headquarters, between Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev and European Council Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland.

As part of the partnering, the European Council will promote new Holocaust programs among its 47 member nations and explore Shoah education policies in an aim to affect lawmakers.

“This agreement denotes willingness to deepen and enhance Holocaust education in Europe, and to encourage teacher training and to reconstitute historical awareness," Avner said.

The Council of Europe is a group promoting cooperation among members on legal standards, human rights and developing democracies.
