Thousands of ultra-Orthodox Israelis protested in Jerusalem against plans to enlist haredi men into the military. The protesters gathered Thursday night near the city’s military draft bureau to listen to rabbis warn that army service would irreparably harm their way of life. “The government wants to uproot and secularize us,” Rabbi David Zycherman said, according to Reuters, “They call it a melting pot, but people cannot be melted.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s …More

An Israeli woman is locked in a legal fight to gain custody of a child she had through a volunteer surrogate mother. Ora Mor Yoseph, who suffers from muscular atrophy and is unable to bear children on her own, has been denied rights to claim the child by a Beersheba Family Court that insists Mor Yoseph has no genetic connection to the child. The volunteer surrogate, an Israeli woman willing to give birth on Mor Yoseph’s behalf, was artificially inseminated in India. After giving birth to a healthy baby …More

Canada deported convicted Palestinian terrorist Mahmoud Mohammad Issa Mohammad after a 25-year legal battle. At a news conference in Ottawa on Monday, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said the Mohammad affair shows how broken the Canadian immigration system has become and that his deportation sends ”the message that we will no longer be treated like suckers by terrorists.” Kenney noted that Mohammad, 69, a one-time member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, stormed an Israeli …More

This is an entirely true story, but it is based on an old lie. It was almost the end of winter in 1911, when a 13-year-old boy disappeared outside of Kiev. A week went by with no news of Andrei Yushchinsky. Then, eight days after his disappearance, his corpse was found in a cave. He had been brutally murdered, his body mutilated. Word of the shocking crime spread quickly. Locals were appalled to learn that there were over 40 pickaxe wounds to his body and head. Shock soon turned to rage. Cue the lies. "The …More

Orthodox Jewish Woman Sues Lancome Over 24-Hour Makeup Advertising

An Orthodox Jewish woman is suing the Lancome cosmetics firm, claiming that its 24-hour makeup does not last as long as advertised and thus prevents her from looking good for the entirety of Shabbat. US Earns Top Marks on Simon Wiesenthal Center's Annual Nazi Prosecution Report

The Simon Wiesenthal Center has released its annual report on the state of global Nazi prosecution, with the US receiving top marks and Australia falling far behind. The report pores over cases of still-living Nazi criminals and the actions their nations or nations-of-residence have taken to bring them to justice. The US was the only country of the 36 under observation to receive an A rating—the best there is. Australia, meanwhile, scored an F, relating to incidents like its refusal last year to extradite …More

In US Fight Over Visa Waiver Exemption for Israel, Both Sides Cite Discrimination

A legislative effort led by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee to enable Israelis to enter the United States without visas may be stymied by the government--Israel’s government. The hitch is Israel’s inability or unwillingness to fully reciprocate, something required for visa-free travel to the United States. Israel, citing security concerns, insists on the right to refuse entry to some US citizens. AIPAC is pushing for an exemption for Israel from this rule. But congressional staffers say …More
