Jewish Groups Urge Kerry to Fight Anti-Semitism in Hungary

A dozen Jewish organizations sent a letter to US Secretary of State John Kerry expressing their concern over the rise of anti-Semitism in Hungary. The May 14 letter commended Kerry for his offices’ recent human rights report that detailed the rise of the xenophobic and anti-Semitic Jobbik party and encouraged Kerry “to keep the issue of intolerance and discrimination squarely on the US-Hungarian bilateral agenda.” The Jobbik party has called for the creation of a list of Jewish public officials …More

Newseum Reverses Decision to Honor Hamas Reporters

A preeminent journalism museum seems to have reversed its controversial decision to honor two Hamas reporters. DC’s Newseum announced last week that it would add Hussam Salama and Mahmoud Al-Kumi to its memorial wall of journalists slain in the line of duty. Salama and Al-Kumi died in Gaza last November during Operation Pillar of Defense. Both men were members of Al-Aqsa, Hamas’s media arm and a US-designated terrorist group unto itself. The decision was criticized almost immediately, particularly …More

One can only imagine the rage of pro-firearms and freedom-fueled bearded men at the NRA convention last weekend. While most of it was good, old-fashioned “I love guns” convention talk, a few incidents crossed the ever-diminishing ethical line. Keynote speaker Glenn Beck spoke to the crowd of 70,000 people and said that anyone who argues in favor of gun control is ignorant or “living an argument of control.” Specifically, the outspoken radio personality pointed his concern at New York Mayor …More

Jewish Community Pulls Together in Wake of Boston Bombing

In the wake of yesterday’s apparent terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon, which killed three and injured upwards of 100 others, Jewish centers were placed on high alert in Boston and in cities like New York, DC, and beyond. “Like all Americans, we were deeply shocked by the apparent bombing of the Boston Marathon,” said ADL head Abraham Foxman. “It is sad that anytime a bomb explodes in a public place we are conditioned as a first reflex to think of it as a terrorist attack; but …More

ADL Concerned Over Hungarian Decision to Honor Anti-Semitic Journalist

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) condemned Hungary government for awarding their annual journalism award, Tancsis Prize, to bigot and anti-Semite Ferene Szaniszlo. Szaniszlo has made prejudicial public statements about Jews and Roma in the past. ADL director, Abraham H. Foxman, responded to the decision, stating Szaniszlo’s “bigoted public statements about Jews and Roma should have disqualified him from consideration for any honor by the government.” Fox also expressed concern that …More

Jewish students at Harvard University received mock eviction notices on their dormitory doors as part of an anti-Israel campaign organized by the Harvard College Palestine Solidarity Committee. The flyers, which informed the students that their rooms “were scheduled for demolition in the next three days,” were meant to invoke the “unlawful displacement of Palestinians from their homeland at the hands of the Israeli government,” the Harvard Crimson reported. Diane von Furstenberg, Fashion Icon and Holocaust Museum Supporter

Diane von Furstenberg takes a seat at her long, farm table-inspired desk inside her office on the fifth floor in the Meatpacking District in New York. The studio is so vividly colored, so overly patterned and so decked out in exotic tchotchkes, von Furstenberg is one of the few people who could possibly occupy it. Seated across from her is Sara Bloomfield, the executive director of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the outfits of the two women could not be more different. Bloomfield is sporting a …More
