Eli Roth Hires Amazonian Natives For New Thriller

Actor/Director Eli Roth has employed special extras for his new film, “The Green Inferno.” While trekking through the South American forest on a scouting trip, he came across a group of villagers with no electricity or running water. Realizing the opportunity, Roth asked the people to appear in his new film. He told Movieline.com, "We said, 'Can we shoot here?' and talked to them, and our producers said, 'We have to explain to them what a movie is. They've never seen a television.’” Not …More

Roth Brings Werewolves to Netflix in ‘Hemlock Grove’

Not another teenage werewolf! Well, at least Eli Roth can be trusted to emphasize the gore over the glitter in his new hour-long series “Hemlock Grove.” Based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name, the 13-episode first season will premiere exclusively on Netflix in early 2013. This partnership will serve to balance Netflix’s other forays into original content: distributing David Fincher-Kevin Spacey political thriller "House of Cards" and new episodes of "Arrested Development." …More

This show is “the most disturbing thing I’ve ever watched,” Eli Roth told the New York Times. Coming from the principal horror filmmaker working in Hollywood today, that is no small compliment. Eli Roth hosted “How Evil Are You?” for the Discovery Channel as part of their “Curiosity” series on Sunday. To examine the nature of evil, the show recreated the infamous Milgram obedience experiment from 50 years ago, to much the same effect. Roth has always been fascinated by …More

Roth A-Mazes Universal Studios

Eli Roth, who is credited with inventing the horror genre 'gorno' (gore + porno), is building a maze for Universal Studios this Halloween, based on his 2005 film "Hostel". He directed "Hostel" on a budget of just over 4 million and it grossed 80 million at the box office, plus another 180 million from DVD sales. The storyline of "Hostel" is that a few backpackers check-in to this hostel that they think will offer them a very sexy stay, but they've actually wandered into a torture den for rich tourists who get off …More

Eli Roth: new blood

Eli Roth has just been to China. The "gore hero of modern times" (as Roth was recently labelled at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic film festival in Switzerland) is, at least for now, leaving torture chambers behind and embracing martial arts. The director of Hostel ("the goriest, sickest, bloodiest movie you'll ever see", according to one critic) has been hard at work near Shanghai. "Basically, it's a kung fu Star Wars movie," Roth explains of The Man With the Iron Fist, which stars his friend Russell …More

Roth Defends Apologetic Crowe Over Anti-Semetism Fuss

Inglourious Basterds star Eli Roth has come to the defence of Russell Crowe over a Jewish joke that went too far. Gladiator star Crowe appeared to be attacking Jewish parents who circumcise their kids in a recent rant on Twitter.com, branding the practice "barbaric and stupid" and "man's interpretation of what God requires". He asked, "Who are you to correct nature? Is it real that God requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect. (I have) many Jewish friends, I love my Jewish friends, I love the apples …More
