GOP Platform to Back Two States

The Republican Party’s platform is expected to include support for a two-state solution in the Middle East. The platform committee, meeting in Tampa, FL, on Tuesday, rejected three amendments that would have removed language supportive of a two-state solution, according to a delegate who put forward two of the amendments. A vote before the full Republican Convention in Tampa is expected next week. The proposed language as it now stands, written by the Romney campaign and committee aides, states, “We …More

Congressman Apologizes for Nude Dip in the Galilee

Several Republican politicians took part in an alcohol-inspired dip in the Galilee, one without his clothes. The allegations were exposed by Politico, citing an unnamed source. The FBI reportedly investigated the occurrence, which took place in the late hours of August 18 after a dinner. As estimated 20 people took part. Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-KS), 36, admitted to swimming in the iconic body of water sans clothing, though his colleagues remained dressed when they took to swimming. "After dinner I followed some …More

GOP Hopes NY Rematch Puts Second Jewish Republican in the US House

Jewish Republicans nationwide are hoping that a heated congressional race rematch in the New York suburbs puts a second Jewish Republican in the US House of Representatives. Following a narrow 593-vote defeat two years ago to Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY), Jewish businessman Randy Altschuler again is running against the incumbent in New York’s 1st Congressional District, which encompasses parts of Suffolk County. Two years ago the New York Jewish Week reported that the district’s Jewish population was at 6 …More

RJC Demands Apology from Obama Strategist for Nazi Imagery

The Republican Jewish Coalition has demanded an apology from President Barack Obama's campaign strategist David Axelrod for his use of “Nazi imagery” in a tweet about the upcoming Illinois GOP primary. "At a time when there is so much talk about the need for civility in political discourse, it is disturbing to see President Obama's top campaign adviser casually throw Nazi imagery around in reference to a Republican candidate for President," read a statement from the RJC released Monday. "Holocaust …More

Republicans Address AIPAC with Varying Degrees of Airtime

Three Republican presidential candidates addressed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) policy conference Tuesday morning, but only two took part in question-and-answer sessions following their comments. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, who was the only candidate to appear in person at the conference amid 10 primaries and causes on “Super Tuesday,” did not have a question-and-answer period following his remarks. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Speaker …More

Jewish Iraq Vet Favored in Ohio Senate Race

The Ohio Senate race is heating up, with six GOP candidates vying to match up against democrat incumbent Sherrod Brown. The current favorite for the March 6 primary is young Jewish military veteran and current state treasurer Josh Mandel. “I know Josh was actively recruited by top party leaders and insiders to run for this seat,” Matthew Brooks, the Republican Jewish Coalition’s executive director, said to the Times of Israel. “It was a process that unfolded over several months, with Josh …More

Surging Santorum has Jewish GOPers Shrugging, Shvitzing and Kvelling

If Rick Santorum secures the Republican nomination, expect to hear this mantra from his Jewish supporters: In times of crisis, social issues don’t matter. The former Pennsylvania senator, who is leading in national polls in the race for the GOP presidential nod, is fiercely anti-abortion and believes that states have the right to ban birth control -- stances that are at odds with the views of most American Jews. Not a problem, says Matt Brooks, executive director of the Republican Jewish …More

Key Gingrich Funder to Support Romney?

Jewish-American casino mogul Sheldon Adelson has been a key supporter of Newt Ginrich's presidential campaign from the beginning. But his intense opposition to President Barack Obama has reportedly lead Adelson to promise even more support to Mitt Romney, should he be named the Republican nominee. Adelson’s wife Miriam recently matched his $5 million donation to Winning Our Future, Gingrich’s super PAC, last month. Much of the funding was apparently used to produce aggressively anti-Romney …More
