Israel High Court Rules Torah Study IDF Exemption Unconstitutional

Israel’s High Court of Justice Tuesday voted to abolish the controversial Tal Law, which enables ultra-Orthodox men to dodge military service. A majority six to three ruling by a panel headed by outgoing Chief Justice Dorit Beinisch found that the law is unconstitutional and cannot be extended in its current form. Jerusalem is the most diverse and complex city in Israel, making it the most unexpected city as well. For example, it turns out that the national-religious population in the capital is growing at a faster rate than the ultra-Orthodox public, and the traditional-religious sector is growing even faster.
