Maggie Gyllenhaal Shocked By Critics’ Reaction to Her New Movie

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s new R-rated period comedy, "Hysteria", is not as hysterical as she thinks. The film’s risqué scenes of uptight women experiencing orgasms surprised the critics lucky enough to catch early screenings of the film. In response, Gyllenhaal tells BlogTalkRadio.com, “I liked the comedy of ladies having loud orgasms in doctor’s offices … I’ve talked to a lot of international press in Italy and Scandinavia, all over and I have been surprised by how shocking …More

With history, sex and suffragettes, “Hysteria” should be the first of the summer’s blockbuster comedies. Though it’s based on real events—“really”—Tanya Wexler’s film cannot decide whether it’s a raucous comedy or an uptight British history. Doctor Mortimer Granville, an earnestly baby-faced Hugh Dancy, has just been fired from his job for believing in germs and clean bandages above leeching tonics. Unwilling to take money off his friend, Lord Edmund St. …More

Maggie Gyllenhaal Makes Another Jewish Baby

No wonder she was loaning out the vibrators she received during her work on Hysteria! According to Life & Style magazine, Maggie Gyllenhaal is six months pregnant with her second child. Wait a minute. Didn’t she do that Got Milk campaign about coffee in September? While she was pregnant? Doesn’t she know that there are rules about this sort of thing? Rumors of the little Jewish bun in the oven have run rampant since Gyllenhaal appeared on the red carpet at the Rome Film Festival sporting what …More

Maggie Gyllenhaal looked downright matronly in a cream halter gown for the premiere of her newest film “Hysteria,” which is about the invention of the vibrator. Maybe she was channeling the dichotomy of the button-up Victorian era and the sexual freedom enabled by the vibrator, but the dress doesn’t feel like a statement. It feels ill fitting and saggy. “Hysteria” enjoyed its world premiere on Friday as part of the International Rome Film Festival. Gyllenhaal hit the red carpet with …More

Maggie Gyllenhaal is too kind. Really, she has taken the mitzvah to a whole new level. While on the road promoting her new film “Hysteria,” which chronicles the invention of the vibrator, Maggie received over a dozen of the instruments from pleasure shops in London. Not one to hog the wealth, Maggie told Gothamist that she has set up a loan program for her new collection. "By the time I finished the movie I'd been sent maybe 15 vibrators by different people in London with vibrator stores. It was a …More
