US Jewish Groups Deny Reports That They Funded Dutch Politician Wilders

Representatives of three prominent American Jewish groups denied Dutch media reports that they had funded Geert Wilders, the Dutch anti-Muslim politician. The De Telegraaf daily and other Dutch media attributed the funding allegations to another Dutch lawmaker, Wim Kortenoeven, who parted ways with Wilder's Freedom Party last month. But Kortenoeven told JTA that Dutch media misreported his remarks and that he had never said that the American Jewish groups funded Wilders, only that they "supported" Wilders' views …More

German Plans for 'Mein Kampf' Excerpts in Schools Seen As a Way to Demystify Hitler Tome

Does “Mein Kampf” belong in German high schools? With Adolf Hitler’s book due to come out of wraps here in 2015, freed after decades under copyright protection that prevented its publication in Germany, it’s a question that is being debated in classrooms and on German TV talk shows. The discussion has not eased since the Ministry of Finance in Bavaria, which owns the rights, announced plans earlier this year to prepare annotated excerpts for German schools. Scholars at Munich’s …More

Far-Right Victories in Greece Prompt Upset, Concern from Jewish Community

Jewish leaders in Greece expressed concern and disappointment after the fascist Golden Dawn party was poised to enter the Greek parliament for the first time. With most of the ballots counted, Golden Dawn received nearly 7 percent of the vote in Sunday's elections as Greeks punished the mainstream parties they blame for the country's financial crisis and accepting harsh European austerity measures. "It is very disappointing that in a country like Greece, where so many were killed fighting the Germans, that a …More

Annotated Edition of 'Mein Kampf' Prepared in Germany

“Mein Kampf” is currently being prepared for issue to German high school students. The notorious book has previously been banned from print in Germany, where the government has strict laws on the production and presentation of Nazi memorabilia. Ministers of science and finance in Bavaria discussed distributing an annotated version of the Adolf Hitler manifesto. The book’s copyright runs out in 2015, at which time Munich’s Institute for Contemporary History will reprint issues for scholarly …More

British publisher to fight ‘Mein Kampf’ ban

A British publisher is vowing to fight a Munich court's decision to permanently ban his publication of excerpts of Hitler's "Mein Kampf." Peter McGee wanted to print excerpts last January in a 16-page insert to his German publication "Zeitungszeugen," or "Newspaper Witnesses," together with critical commentary from historians. The insert, one of three planned supplements, also would have been sold separately. But the Munich Regional Court last week upheld a restraining order issued by a lower court that barred …More

Publisher Obscures “Mein Kampf” Excerpts in Germany

A British publisher, who planned to print excerpts of Hitler’s manifesto “Mein Kampf” in Germany for the first time since WWII, has backed down following legal pressure from the Bavarian government. Bavaria owns the copyright to the book, and threatened legal action should Peter McGee sell pamphlets with the excerpts. McGee had planned to publish three 16-page installments of the text with scholarly commentary starting Thursday. He said that an explanation of the "abyss of Hitler's crude ideas" …More

“Mein Kampf” Published in Germany For First Time Since WWII

Though banned from German bookstores since World War II, Adolf Hitler’s treatise “Mein Kampf” will become available in the country again on Thursday. A British publisher is printing a small run of excerpts of the book to demystify the dictator’s legend. Reprinting Nazi text is outlawed in Germany, except for the purposes of academic study. But it is the state of Bavaria that owns the copyrights to “Mein Kampf,” Hitler’s autobiographical book on the rights of the master …More

Hitler Letter To Be Displayed At The Museum Of Tolerance

A 1919 letter written by Adolf Hitler that declares his hatred for Jews will be displayed to the public for the first time at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. The letter, which was written six years before the publication of Hitler's autobiography, “Mein Kampf,” discusses the “Jewish threat” and lays out a plan for Germany to limit Jewish citizens’ influence in the country. The Simon Wiesenthal Center obtained Hitler's letter last year. The center’s founder, Rabbi …More
