Anti-Semitic or Smart Comedy: A Personal Choice

As Seth MacFarlane finalizes his jokes for the 85th Annual Academy Awards this Sunday, lobbyists and pro-rights activists of every kind are gearing up with rage for the chance to destroy MacFarlane and those same jokes Monday morning. Perhaps it is a bit negative to assume that people will be eager to attack the 1st time Oscar host, but it seems logical that MacFarlane will absolutely insult, demean, and make several groups extremely uncomfortable. Again, to those feeling this is too harsh a presumption, you …More

Mel Gibson and Joe Ezsterhas Light Up Rumor Mill with ‘Maccabees’

At this point, it’s a Hanukkah miracle that Mel Gibson and Joe Ezsterhas haven’t killed each other over their film “Maccabees.” The on-again, off-again Judah Maccabee-themed movie, which Ezsterhas is writing the screenplay for and Gibson is to be directing, is as much of a saga as the story it’s based on. And Gibson has recently added a little fuel to the fire. First some context; this past April, Warner Bros., which is backing the film, put the project on hold, allegedly because …More

Israeli Teen to Play Virgin Mary in 'Passion' Prequel

An Israeli teenager will portray the Virgin Mary in a prequel to “The Passion of the Christ.” Odeya Rush, 15, will star next to the likes of Ben Kingsley and Julia Ormond, playing the biblical character at the ages of 8, 15 and 19. The film, “Mary, Mother of the Christ,” is penned by “Passion” writer Benedict Fitzgerald. Mel Gibson, who famously directed the first installment, will have no hand in the production. Instead, Alister Grierson will take on the director role. Odeya …More

Joe Eszterhas isn’t backing down from his recent statements regarding Mel Gibson, in which the screenwriter accused the “Braveheart” star of having the “same mindset as Adolf Hitler.” The comments came after a deal fell through to produce a film version of the Maccabees story, which Gibson was set to star in. Upon finishing the script, Eszterhas was told by Warner Brothers that it was no longer interested in making the film, sending Joe into a rant of anti-Semitic accusations that …More

In 2011, rumors surfaced that Mel Gibson had commissioned a screenplay from Hungarian-American writer Joe Eszterhas about the 167 B.C. Maccabee revolt. Warner Brothers, which has a longstanding working relationship with the notorious actor, agreed to distribute the film after Gibson and Eszterhas had worked a year on the project. A script, promoted as “The Jewish ‘Braveheart,’” was delivered in February, and then project was summarily shelved on Wednesday. Though the untitled film has been …More

Gibson’s Arresting Deputy Settles Discrimination Lawsuit

James Mee, the Jewish sheriff’s deputy who arrested Mel Gibson for drunk driving and endured his anti-Semitic rant, settled his religious discrimination lawsuit against the county Tuesday. In the lawsuit, Mee claimed that his supervisors ordered Gibson’s rant purged from the official incident report in 2006. After complaining about the order, Mee claims he was passed over for promotions and subject to religious discrimination. Mee’s attorneys report that a $50,000 settlement was reached, but …More

Maccabee Movie Screenwriter Backs Mel Gibson

In these troubled times, who will have the courage to do the impossible? In other words, who will have the courage to stand up for Mel Gibson’s involvement in a movie about Judah Maccabee? Here's your answer: The project's screenwriter, Joe Eszterhas, has risen to the occasion by defending the movie star and his anti-Semitic rap sheet during a recent interview with the New York Times. Eszterhas told the paper that he “jumped” at the opportunity to work with Gibson on the project and that he is …More

“You racist” is only a considered a compliment when said to Mel Gibson. Director Lee Daniels did not appear to relish being called a racist by producer Avi Lerner on the set of “The Paperboy” on Sunday, going all strong and silent. The knock-down, all out battle over racism, disrespect and scuba divers (don’t ask, most of it is inaudible) was caught by TMZ on what appears to be a cell phone camera. The take away appears to be that the film, starring Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman is …More

California Synagogue Asks Mel Gibson for the Vig

Facing the bitter bite of bankruptcy, a California synagogue has asked Mel Gibson for a bailout. Yes, you read that sentence correctly. Beth Shalom, in Corona, California, took out a loan that turned out to be a bit too much for them. A letter written to the notorious anti-Semite, obtained by TMZ, read: “Our proposal to you, Mr. Gibson, is since you have been cited as an Anti-Semitic, and have denied those allegations, what better way to prove to all your fans and the nay Sayers — than to endorse …More

Sheriff Who Arrested Mel Gibson will get Day in Court

The sheriff's deputy who arrested actor Mel Gibson and was the subject of his anti-Semitic rant should be able to take his workplace discrimination case before a jury, a Los Angeles judge ruled.  James Mee, who is Jewish, says he was subject to religions discrimination and a hostile work environment after arresting Gibson in 2006. He wants to take his case before a judge and jury. Mee claims that his supervisors ordered him to remove Gibson's anti-Semitic remarks from the official incident report, placing …More
