An Israeli outpost evacuation planned for yesterday has met a delay, with no clear indication of when the move might take place. Residents in Migron have been allowed to stay put, while the Israeli Supreme Court reviews a petition for a delay. The West Bank settlers requested the evacuation be put off until a nearby neighborhood of modular homes designed for the evacuees is completed. The homes are not expected to be finished for several weeks. As it stands, the Supreme Court will make a decision on the petition …More

On the Eve of Evacuation, Migron Projecting Tranquility

Off a rough, paved road atop a mountain, on the thin stucco wall of a trailer home, black graffiti proclaims “Private Jewish land.” And underneath, in red, “Migron.” The trailer home is among dozens in Israel’s largest settlement outpost, deep in the central West Bank and not far from the Palestinian metropolis of Ramallah. To reach Migron, cars must exit a main highway and ascend a twisting road that barely has room for two lanes. Founded more than a decade ago, Migron remains …More

Israel’s Supreme Court Blocks Migron Deal

Israel's top court order blocked the government's deferral of the demolition of an illegal West Bank settlement. Citing the need to maintain the rule of law, the High Court of Justice ruled Sunday against an attempt by the government to postpone to 2015 the demolition of Migron, a settlement that the Palestinians say is built on their land. After repeated deferrals dating back to 2006, the demolition was scheduled to take place at the end of the month. But the court gave the state until August to arrange an …More

Two U.S. Groups Praise Bibi on Migron, Slam Mosque Attack

Two major U.S. Jewish groups commended Israel for dismantling an illegal settlement and condemned a subsequent attack on a mosque apparently by West Bank Jewish settlers. The Reform movement's Religious Action Center and the The American Jewish Committee praised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The center in a statement Wednesday lauded Netanyahu for his leadership in calling for the immediate dismantling of the Migron settlement, in accordance with a decision handed down by the Israeli Supreme Court. "We …More
