This has been a summer of great music, but you aren’t hearing all of it on the radio. Sure, “We Can’t Stop” is a party anthem and “Blurred Lines” is evocative of sexy soul days past, but you can look outside top 40 for your tunes. Case in point: very buzzy indie pop sister trio HAIM. If you've been missing the summer of HAIM, now is the time to get on board. The band is made of the three HAIM sisters (Danielle, Este and Alana), three nice Jewish girls from Los Angeles. …More

Sgt. Shaul Meyron, a 22-year-old combat medic in the Caracal infantry brigade, “was hit by lightning” two years ago when he discovered he had a penchant for music. Since then, he has been on a musical journey, learning the harmonica, guitar, ukulele, Irish flute, and piano along the way. Sgt. Meyron’s service in the IDF, he says, is not detrimental to his artistic side. On the contrast, he is “loving” it and finding his muse in the military: “There is lots of inspiration in …More

Don’t hate. These are boys used to making music with their mouths, so they’re still figuring out this whole musical instrument thing. The bow goes with the flute, right? As a totally needless disclaimer points out, no musical instruments were used (or harmed) in the making of The Maccabeats' latest music video: their version of Sara Bareilles’ hit “Brave.” There’s decidedly less latke flipping and battles between Maccabees and Romans than we’d like in this one, but even …More

The pair is looking to raise at least $32,000 for the video by June 9, and they are offering rewards such as T-shirts and lyric sheets to donors. Initially only funded by a select few--perhaps thanks to some off-putting language in the campaign (the band is an …More

In a new attempt at a viral video, young adults are exhorted to call their Zaydes. This isn’t a social call, however (although when was the last time you rang just to say hello?). No, this call is to beg him (and anyone else his age) to vote for Barack Obama for president. Released by the Jewish Council for Education and Research’s SchlepLabs, the same political advertising studio behind such gems as “An Indecent Proposal from Sarah Silverman” and “Wake the F**k Up!” starring …More
