Israel 'Determined' to Keep Weapons Out of Hezbollah Hands

Israel is “determined” to keep advanced weapons from Syria out of Hezbollah hands, an anonymous official told the New York Times. The senior Israeli insider told the paper that if Syrian President Bashar al-Assad seeks retaliation against Israel involvement in the matter, he would face serious consequences. “If Syrian President Assad reacts by attacking Israel, or tries to strike Israel through terrorist proxies, he will risk forfeiting his regime, for Israel will retaliate.” Israel has …More

The small green sign on West 43rd Street between Broadway and 8th Avenue in New York City is easy to miss among the neon cacophony that is today’s Times Square. But take a moment to notice ‘Adolph S. Ochs Street;’ its eponymous newspaper mogul died 79 years ago on April 8. And Adolph Ochs is a name worth remembering. Without him, Times Square would not have its name—and the world might not have the New York Times. Adolph was a first generation American, the son of two German Jews. His …More

Times Reporter Who Uncovered Jewish KKK Member Dies at 85

McCandlish Phillips, an esteemed journalist who devoted himself to spreading Gospel in later life, died Tuesday at the age of 85. His death, brought on by complications from pneumonia, sparked many in the media to fondly recount what was perhaps Phillips’ most memorable contribution to journalism—an investigative report that unmasked a notorious Ku Klux Klan leader as a Jew. Phillips was already a respected reporter at the New York Times in 1965, when he set out to profile the story of Daniel Burros. …More

NYT Magazine Draws Heat for Cover Story on Palestinian Village Known for Protests

JNS.org A New York Times Magazine cover story is under fire from critics in the pro-Israel community who say it too sympathetically depicts a Palestinian village known for holding weekly demonstrations against Israel. The story titled “Is this where the third Intifada will start?” about the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh was written by Ben Ehrenreich, who in 2009 penned an opinion piece for the Los Angeles Times headlined “Zionism is the problem.” “In December 2009 they held their …More

NYT Runs Correction on Settlement 'Roadblock' Claims

The New York Times has published a correction to an article that falsely stated the new E1 settlement plans in Israel would act as “a roadblock” to a contiguous Palestinian state. The claim ran in a December 2 article, shortly after the Jewish state announced its intention to construct some 3,000 housing units along the settlement region known as E1, just outside Jerusalem. Many saw the move as retaliation against the Palestinian Authority’s successful bid for elevated status in the UN, which …More

Jerry Seinfeld Defends Ironic “Really?” From ‘R’ Word Critic

Jerry Seinfeld has come to the defense of comedians who employ the word “really” as a punchline against New York Times television critic Neil Genzliger. In the original op-ed by Genzliger published on October 1st, the critic laments the ever present word as it is “undoing 2,000 years’ worth of human progress.” The columnist argues that instead of hashing out ideas and expressing themselves, comedians and writers are relying on the use of one word to encapsulate multiple meanings and …More

New Film Explores Trend of Holocaust Tattoo Replication

The New York Times ran a feature over the weekend, profiling a rising trend within the Holocaust survivor community. It seems children and grandchildren are tattooing concentration camp numbers on their skin, as a way to honor the histories of their ancestors. Eli Sagir, 21, was highlighted in the piece. Sagir had the number 157662 inked on her arm after a trip to Poland four years ago. It is the same number her grandfather, Yosef Diamant, had tattooed on his skin by Nazis at Auschwitz some 70 years ago. Soon …More

Jodi Rudoren is the New NYT Jerusalem Bureau Chief

After four years, the New York Times’ Jerusalem bureau chief is stepping down. The paper announced that Ethan Bronner will be replaced by Jodi Rudoren, the Times' education editor, in April. Two years ago, the newspaper’s public editor recommended that Bronner be reassigned because his son was serving in the Israel Defense Forces. After the announcement Tuesday, speculation abound that Bronner was reassigned to legal affairs reporter, rather than choosing to step down. Bronner told Politico, "I have …More
