Erdan Vetoes Red Sea-Dead Sea Pipeline

This week, the Environmental Protection Ministry vetoed plans for a pipeline linking the Red Sea to the Dead Sea. The proposed 110 mile conduit linking would pump much needed recycled water into the rapidly shrinking Dead Sea to help raise water levels. “With no action, the sea level is expected to drop by another 150 meters until it will stabilize as a much smaller water body at a level of about 543 meters below sea level by the mid-22nd century," the World Bank’s January 2013 report …More

Sinai-Area Terror Group Claims Responsibility for Eilat Explosions

An Islamist terror group operating in the Sinai claimed responsibility for firing rockets into southern Israel. The Salafi Front, along with saying it fired rockets into Eilat on Wednesday night, also claimed responsibility for more than a dozen attacks on the gas pipeline between Egypt and Israel. Egypt's gas pipeline to Israel was attacked for the 12th time in a year. Sunday's attack near El Arish in the northern Sinai Peninsula came after masked gunmen planted explosives under the pipeline, security officials told the French news agency AFP. Israel has offered to export natural gas to India, according to a report in the Indian Economic Times last week. Remote controlled bombs blew up a gas pipeline between Egypt and Israel, stopping its flow into the Jewish state. The first explosion occurred near the town of Al-Arish.
