Cricket Bridges Gap Between Israeli and Palestinian Youths

Shehadeh Salamin, 16, from the West Bank, wrote a winning essay about his time in the “Cricket for Peace” program, an initiative of the Peres Center for Peace that brings together Arab and Israeli children to play cricket together. Underprivileged children in Israel have a new basketball court to play on, thanks to one New York bar mitzvah boy. Aaron Liberman, a freshman basketball player at Northwestern and Orthodox Jew, is drawing attention to himself. Though he hasn’t appeared in a game this season due to a nasty case of shin splints, he does have yarmulke on his head. For 11 years, the Israeli Triathlon was dominated by the Alterman twins, Dan and Ran--until now. Over the weekend a new champ was made, Ron Darmon, after finishing the Israel Championship Race in first place at 1:59:12, in Eilat. The next day, the young Israeli ranked 160 in the world started his mandatory military service with the IDF. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is set to launch her own line of yoga apparel. “The Avengers” star, who is a longtime yoga fan, has partnered with apparel company Beyond Yoga to design the range, which is being sold exclusively through Paltrow's lifestyle Web site Goop.com. Nearly 20,000 runners took part in the Nike Night Run, an after hours marathon across Tel Aviv. Tuesday night, Rabin Square played host to 19,851 participants, who stretched and chatted before taking to the pavement.
