New Zealand Jewish Graves Defaced with Swastikas

Dozens of Jewish graves were defaced at a New Zealand cemetery, a crime discovered early this morning. Auckland’s Karangahape Road Cemetery is the resting place of graves dating back to the 1880’s, with this marking the first occurrence of anti-Semitic vandalism. The tombstones were defaced with swastikas and the number 88, a code for HH, or Heil Hitler. A disturbing hashtag term is currently trending on Twitter: #卐卐卐. The swastika as a series of typed characters began springing up on the social network over the weekend, with more than 100,000 uses since Saturday. The source of the trend is yet unknown, but the term was accompanied by a slew of Tweets that ranged from mocking to outright anti-Semitic. Russian opera singer Evgeny Nikitin has withdrawn from the Bayreuth Opera Festival because of Nazi tattoos on his chest and arm. A Jewish-owned car in the Boston area was keyed with a swastika and an anti-Semitic epithet. The car, which was parked near a synagogue in the upscale Brighton neighborhood, was vandalized on the eve of Passover. Italian Boys Who Scrawled Swastika Will Read Anne Frank’s Diary, Parent Says

Two middle schoolers who scrawled a swastika and "Adolf" on a wall near the Venice Jewish cemetery will be forced by their parents to read "The Diary of Anne Frank." Anti-Semitic graffiti was discovered at 6:30 a.m. on August 22 at the West Hills campus of Temple Judea in Los Angeles.
