Knesset Opts for Healthier, Sustainable Fare

The Israeli Knesset has committed to serving up more sustainable fare in its three cafeterias. In an effort spearheaded by Knesset Member Tamar Zandberg, vegan and vegetarian choices will feature prominently in menu options, and a focus will be placed on sourcing ethically raised foods for all meals. “The Knesset ought to lead trends that are ethical, progressive and considerate of the helpless,” Zandberg wrote in her request to Knesset director general Dan Landau. Tel Aviv Votes to Operate Buses on Shabbat

The Tel Aviv City Council voted Monday to operate public transportation on Shabbat within the city limits. Currently, services cease Friday afternoon and resume after sundown on Saturday, as Jewish law forbids vehicular operation on Shabbat. The new measure, which would extend service on Friday and Saturdays, passed in a 13-7 vote.
