Arab-Israeli teenagers took to the lacrosse field last week, eager to win the first full-length game they had ever competed in. But the game had loftier goals than athleticism and sportsmanship, with 24 teenagers from opposite sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict brought face to face to foster cultural respect and understanding. Orthodox Woman Firefighter Volunteers in Israel

Shoshana Weiner of Long Island, New York, has been a volunteer firefighter for 12 years. In addition to firefighting, Weiner’s day job includes working as a nurse practitioner at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, and as a paramedic instructor at St. John’s University in Queens.
